Talk:Library
From ScotLUG
"Owner" is a good idea (for people who want the book back)
Current Holder
I am not so sure about the current holder:
- it requires the borrower to be a registered Wiki user (just in case someone are not interested in editing the Wiki)
- if it gets out-of-date, how do you find the book. I had in mind that someone who wants to read a book would email the list (edlug and/or scotlug) to find out has who has got it. That would also:
- provide a "public" record of library transactions
- give us (random) reminders of the library and the books
- only members of the list (our friends, people we know) can borrow (Wiki does not require the user's email address - list does)
(uuh, this is starting to get more organised then I am used to from (and love about) edlug...) Geetam
- Yes, it is a bit worrying, isn't it :-)

- I've only just started on edlug (and scotlug). I didn't mean to disturb the natural flow. Initially, I did put my
- email address in the borrower field but changed it to match the books that'd been added since then. My only concern
- about mailing requests to the list would be that some people might get irritated by frequent library related posts.
- Maybe we could tag the subject line of library related emails with "LUGLIB" or something.
- --cddr
- That's an issue - but it shouldn't be too constant, since people would be emailing the current_holders, rather than owner. If someone gets frequent emails, it's probably a sign that they have too many books out :-) (I'm also a lurker, so my words probably shouldn't count for much :-) )

But AFAIK the Wiki does not record email addresses of the user - so how do I contact the current holder( or the owner)?

- I don't really see why this matters? For users who do have a userpage on the wiki (eg: cdfh), they should just sign out the books with a link to their page - for everyone else, sign with an email address? Of course, this could easily be exploited, but the whole library revolves around the idea of mutual trust.

Marking wanted books
Instead of marking wanted books with an asterisk (*), perhaps each entry should have a "wanted list", eg:
- Practical Common Lisp, Peter Siebel (Maryhill, Glasgow) (cddr, cddr) (wanted by: cdfh, j.doe, etc)
A gentle prod could be sent to the current borrower. When a borrower gets bored of a book, they could pass it on to the first person in the wanted list.
