Rockbox - Open Jukebox Firmware

by Alistair Marshall

1930, Thursday October 2nd 2008

at the Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue

RockBox, is open source jukebox firmware for mp3 players. They recently released version 3.0 (their first release in 3 years) and now support a variety of digital audio players including 1st through 5.5th generation iPods, iriver players, iAUDIO, SanDisk plus several others.

This presentation will explain a bit of the history behind the project, some of the advantages of running running rockbox over original firmwares. The presentation will also look at the differences between rockbox and ipod linux, the future of the project and if you are really lucky, I might try to get a live demo working.

The rockbox project was my introduction to the world of open source and whilst I have not attempted to contribute anything in the last few years, I have still closely followed the development.
