OpenStreetMap
by Chris Fleming
On Thursday 7th June 2007 at the Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue at 7.30pm. 36 Attendees.
OpenStreetMap is a project aimed at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants
them. The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on
their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways.
We will look at why we need OpenStreetMap, as a component of a free software stack, and how you can help the project by collecting mapping data, and editing the map, how this data is processed and stored and finally we will look at how to use this mapping data to create your own maps and inside your own applications.
