Title: Wireless Internet where you can't.
Speaker: Claudio Calvelli
Slides: from rfc4824.net
Synopsis
There are times when you want to use an Internet connection but unnecessary restrictions stop you from doing so. An example is on board aircraft: any use of the electromagnetic spectrum outside of visible light seems to be forbidden, and that stops any form of wireless connection and mobile internet.
Some little-known Internet standards provide a way around this problem, and to encourage wider acceptance of these, I have implemented one such standard which is completely legal to use *everywhere* as long as your mobile device has a "airplane mode" or equivalent. I will discuss my implementation, also showing how you can easily write your own network devices in Linux (and other open source operating systems).
With live demo. And what can possibly go wrong.
If time allows, I will also mention other form of wireless connection which do not use any banned part of the spectrum. Without live demo, for reasons which will become obvious during the talk.
